links a la mode

Edited by Retrochick. Well, I suppose I should start this week’s Links à la Mode with this:

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Here are some lovely links to keep you busy over the Christmas period. M.I.S.S. and JewelryWhore have DIY ideas to keep your mind and body occupied, ID Style and Little Miss Makeup show you how to ramp up the glamour in your makeup bag, whilst Daily Diva Dish and The Working Wardrobe help you plan what to wear for New Year’s Eve and your first day back at work post-holiday. If you run out of entertainment here, then you should check out the full Links à la Mode thread for more yummy fashion goodness. Have a fantastic holiday and I hope that Santa brings you everything you wish for! (more…)

Links à la Stocking Stuffers!

Edited by Fashion Pulse Daily.

This week, as I’ve been getting geared up for the holiday season’s shopping (both loving and dreading it) via Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I couldn’t help but compare the posts to stocking stuffers. Why? Because it felt like a nice, sentimental hodge podge of little items that although different, still fit together into the bigger equation, hence my new phrase, “Links à la Stocking Stuffers!” Although I jest, I love the variety of posts this week, from Retro Chick‘s guide to ’40s hair for holiday parties, CoolMamaStyle.com‘s tuxedo jacket, The Coveted‘s adventures in Century 21 and What to Wear‘s Art Basel fashionable looks, to Prom Mafia‘s run in with Black Friday and SwaySwaySway‘s blissful tactics to keep your computer off on Cyber Monday. As expected, there was a fabulous round-up of links in the forum as well, all worthy of your eyeballs! (more…)

Links à la Mode: Thrifty Chic

Edited by Retro Chick.

There’s a thrifty feel abound in this week’s Links à la Mode. Maybe we are all saving money for Christmas, or perhaps we’re those recessionistas that I hear so much about. Oranges and Apples spends a week living out of a capsule wardrobe to prove it can be done, Further Ado tells us why “Investment Dressing” is just another way that fashion magazines try and part us from our cash, Style Symmetry shows us three ways to work the same plaid blazer, and Fashion is my Crush saves money by making her own studded vest (that’s a waistcoat, if you’re British …).

As the end of October creeps closer and the night’s draw in, this week’s Links à la Mode also, inevitably, includes some Halloween inspiration from The New Wave and Style Amor, along with the usual amazing mix of giveaways, interviews and reviews that we’ve come to expect.

Of course, if you need more tips and tricks, remember to check out all the submissions for this week in the Links à la Mode thread. (more…)

Shifting Gears

Edited by Jennine.

It’s here. Summer’s (basically) over, back to school, back to work, … plus, today is the first official day of Fashion Week madness … and New York is just the beginning. I’ve always thought once Labor Day rolled around, we shifted gears and started jamming everything in, struck by the realization that the year is almost out! This week, we’ve got an amazing round of links, seriously, it was so hard to pick only 20. Style Amor wonders if we really need Fashion Week at all, Heavy Heels senses the Wind of Change, as models start chopping their locks, The Demoiselles begin a ‘get healthy’ project, and kaKofonie Of si(gh)lenS does a remarkable interview with Patricia Ayres. Beauty, Style, & the Blogosphere

Edited by Ashe Mischief.

Beauty and Style come in many forms, and this week’s Links à la Mode choices showcase the many discussions entering the world of fashion blogging at the moment: excessive judgements, the value of personalities, and cultivating your inner beauty as well as your outer beauty. Bonne-Vie challenges the values of the show “More to Love” and Fivve Blog shares model sensation Lara Stone. Newcomer Jaka’s Tea Party calls to action with the Wholestyle Manifesto and Betsey J asks “Are we too judgemental as fashion bloggers?”

Not to overshadow this week’s Links à la Mode with too heavy of discussions, we’ve also got a great roundup of makeup tutorials & inspiration, along with great DIY projects & giveaways in the forums! (more…)
