Reflective finishes made a return to the runway in the AW 2011 shows. To get the catwalk look, take a palette of metallic eyeshadows and build a layer of shiny color from the lash line to the brow bone. To sex up your eyes, add some smudgy black eyeliner to the top and bottom lids, and prime your lashes with mascara. To apply the finishing touches to the trend, buff your cheeks with bronzer and paint on a nude lip.

Androgyny is a key theme for autumn/winter 2011. While the whole boy/girl thing is nothing new to those who inhabit beauty and fashion circles, this season is a little different. Not only has this trend been revived, it’s been reinvented. This time round, even though the fashion is quite masculine, it’s tailored, which means it’s not sloppy in that “I’m wearing my boyfriend’s clothes” kind of way. Instead of being slouchy, the clothing is confident, contemporary and cool, and the woman who wear it have attitude. This element of toughness is also portrayed in the makeup, with heavy contouring, strong brows and pared-back colors bringing an element of hardness to the face.

To recreate the trend, pull out a pout-popping hue and paint it on.
