I’m not a raving feminist in a ‘throwing my bra off kind of way’ (heaven forbid), but I can’t deny the fact that I do love a bit of ‘girl power’. Sisters doing it for themselves is totally my kind of gig. After all, that is the reason Little Miss Makeup.com was founded in the first place. It has been my home since late 2008, and through it I aim to inspire women – one eyeshadow at a time! I believe makeup empowers women. Not only should they feel fabulous when they are wearing it, but I think learning how to apply it properly also helps to build confidence. I love the fact that through sharing my experiences as a makeup artist and demonstrating what I know, I can help women feel better about themselves. LMM is my little way of giving something positive back to society.
I’m not alone. There are many participants in the global movement for good: take the partnership between Dermalogica and Kiva for example. Their initiative is called FITE (Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship), and provides small loans to women to help them start or grow a business. Each lady lendee is mentored in effective money management, and when she has repaid her loan the money is used to fund another female entrepreneur, and on the cycle goes. How ace is that! This system not only benefits the women themselves, but has positive flow-on effects for their families and communities.
In celebration of Mandela Day on Wednesday 18 July, Dermalogica is funding 670 loans, which will be directed to woman entrepreneurs across the world, and they want your help to choose the recipients. Supporting this worthwhile cause won’t cost you a single cent – just a few seconds of your time! (more…)
