A). Pre-makeup.

Pluck your eyebrows and prepare your skin by cleansing⁽¹⁾ and moisturizing⁽²⁾.

B). Foundation.

Apply a dewy foundation⁽³⁾ to the center of your face with a foundation brush⁽⁴⁾; then, for a natural finish, blend it outwards with your fingertips.

C). Concealer.

To even out your skin tone, take some concealer⁽⁵⁾ on a concealer brush⁽⁶⁾ and apply it beneath the eye, over the eyelid, around the nostrils and onto any spots and blemishes; then blend by pressing it into the skin with your fingertip.

D). Eyeshadow.

Main color.

Pick up a dark-green, gold-flecked eyeshadow⁽⁷⁾ on an eye shading brush⁽⁸⁾ and block it over the top lid. For an intense application of color, begin at the upper lashline and work it up into the socket line using a repetitive up-and-down patting motion. Then take a blending brush⁽⁹⁾, and using back and forth strokes and circular motions, blend the shadow over the lid, through the crease and up onto the lower brow bone. To give the eye a rounded shape at the outer corner, follow the natural curve of the eye socket. Next, using a pencil brush⁽¹⁰⁾, take the shadow beneath the eye and line the lower lashes. To smooth and soften the finish, blend over the line with an angled blending brush⁽¹¹⁾.

Makeup artist tip! Don’t let fall-out from your eyeshadow ruin your foundation. Hold a folded tissue below the eye with your free hand to prevent any particles falling onto the face. Another way to keep your makeup base smudge-free, is to apply your eyeshadow first. After you have applied your shadow, cleanly remove any fall-out from the cheek area before you follow up with foundation.

Highlight.

To give your eye that ‘just caught the light’ look, apply a touch of metallic gold shadow⁽¹²⁾ to the middle of the eyelid with a flat brush⁽¹³⁾.

Makeup artist tip! To get the highlight right, open your eye, look straight ahead into a mirror and locate your iris (the colored part of the eye). Then close your eye and apply the shadow to the center of the lid directly over the iris.

E). Eyelashes.

Curl your top eyelashes with an eyelash curler⁽¹⁴⁾ and then take a full-strip false lash⁽¹⁵⁾ and measure it against your lashline; if necessary, trim it to fit. Next, holding the lash with tweezers⁽¹⁶⁾, apply some adhesive⁽¹⁷⁾ to the spine with an orange stick (or similar tool); then wait a few minutes for the glue to become tacky. Using the tweezers and your fingers, guide the lash into place. Adhere it to the inner corner of the eye first, and push the spine against the roots of your natural lashes. When you have it positioned correctly, work outwards along the length of the eye, ensuring the lash is attached as close to the edge of your eyelid as possible. To ensure the lash is fastened securely, hold it in place for 20 seconds and then remove any excess adhesive with tweezers⁽¹⁶⁾.

Makeup artist tip!  Trimming trap! Before snipping your strip lash to size, examine it. To mimic natural lashes, most strips have shorter lashes on one end and longer lashes on the other. Never trim the short end, as these lashes line up with the inner corner of your eye; always cut from the long end for the best fit.

F). Mascara.

To open up the eye, apply a black lengthening mascara⁽¹⁸⁾ to the bottom lashes.

Makeup artist tip! Normally I apply mascara to the top lashes too (so the falsies and natural lashes merge together seamlessly), but not this time! Because I wanted the “cobweb” design to take center stage, I left the upper lashes mascara free.

G). Eyeliner.

For a fuller-looking lashline, take some gel eyeliner⁽¹⁹⁾ on an eyeliner brush⁽²⁰⁾ and paint it along the roots of the upper lashes.

Makeup artist tip! Some lashes (including these ones) have quite thick spines which double as eyeliner. So . . . you don’t have to line the whole lashline unless you want to. Simply fill in any gaps.

H). Eyebrow powder.

For well-manicured brows, pick up some brow powder⁽²¹⁾ on an angled brush⁽¹¹⁾ and softly fill in any gaps in the hair growth; then brush the brows upwards with a brow comb⁽²²⁾.

I). Face powder.

To set your base, sweep some face powder⁽²³⁾ over the whole face with a large powder brush⁽²⁴⁾.

J). Lipstick.

For a stained-looking lip, concentrate the color in the center and feather it out toward the corners. To achieve this, roughly apply a satin-textured, red-based lipstick⁽²⁵⁾ to the middle of your lips with a lip brush⁽²⁶⁾; then, pat it in with the pad of your finger. If too much color moves beyond the lip line, use a clean fingertip to neaten the edges.

K). Blush.

To add a soft hue to the cheek⁽²⁷⁾, pick up a neutral beige powder blush on a powder brush⁽²⁴⁾ and blend it under the cheekbone.

L). Spider.

Take some black gel liner⁽¹⁹⁾ on a fine-tipped brush⁽²⁰⁾ and draw a little spider on the top of your cheekbone (just beneath the outer corner of your eye). Then, to make the spider sparkle, take some glitter glue⁽²⁸⁾ and black glitter⁽²⁹⁾ on an art brush⁽³⁰⁾ and apply it over the head and body. As a finishing touch, attach two self-adhering red crystals⁽³¹⁾ with tweezers⁽¹⁶⁾ for eyes.

Makeup artist tip! Why stop at one? For extra effect, paint on a whole family of spiders!

M). Nail polish.

For on-theme talons, splash a dark lacquer⁽³²⁾ on your fingernails.

To complete the look, dress in black and don a witch’s hat.
