Strengthen and lengthen your lashes!

Eyelash Treatment1 Strengthen and lengthen your lashes!

Foltène are well known for their hair care products, and have been leading the way in preventing hair loss and improving hair growth for many years. They have recently taken this knowledge, applied it to the lashes, and introduced Foltène Pharma Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatment to the market.

Similarly to the hair on your head, eyelash growth can be negatively affected by the environment, poor diet and stress. Additionally, the application of makeup and treatments like tinting and curling (with chemicals and heated devices) can contribute to the depletion of keratin (the protein responsible for good hair health), resulting in lashes that are dull, weak, short and sparse.

In my kit: Over 30 kg of makeup and counting!

March 5th, 2012

Dear LMM, being a makeup artist obviously means you own a lot of makeup. I’m curious – how do you organize it?

Thanks, Alex.

Dear Alex,

Thanks for your question. Most makeup artists have their own preferences when it comes to their makeup kits. Here’s how I do it.

The mobile makeup counter!

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm In my kit: Over 30 kg of makeup and counting!

My basic makeup kit is actually a large suitcase (with wheels), and when it’s full of makeup it weighs about 35 kg. I can’t even lift it, so when I’m on jobs in multi-level buildings I pray that there is an elevator, not stairs! This kit contains all the staple items I take with me to every shoot. In addition, I have a set of storage drawers and a number of large storage boxes at home where I store excess products.

I work for an agency, and most of the time when I get booked, I don’t find out what sort of makeup I’m doing until I get to the studio. So, my kit has to be big enough to cover off on everything. Sometimes, for big jobs, I receive a brief so I can prepare in advance, and other times clients will request that I bring specific products. Forewarned is forearmed. For example, next week I’m doing a bikini shoot and have been told that the pale-skinned models will need to sport a golden glow from head to toe. Although I have a selection of body products in my basic kit, in preparation I have already raided my storage unit to bolster my bronzing supplies. One celebrity client I regularly do makeup for demands that I use Clarins Beauty Flash Balm – so I always have a tube of that on hand.

Pretty in peach!

February 28th, 2012

“ ’Tonal, monochrome or matchy-matchy’ ” is the perfect way to sum up one of this season’s hottest makeup looks. To translate the trend, pick a single colorway and apply it to the eyelid, top of the cheekbone and lip. Sunset shades like peach, melon, apricot and marmalade were seen at shows like Jaeger, Preen and DKNY. Choose these hues – they look fresh, feminine and oh so pretty on everyone!” LMM, 2012.

Prime time!

Lancome La Base Pro Prime time!

The main purpose of a primer is to prepare the face for foundation.

In my opinion, Lancôme La Base Pro is the best primer for normal to oily complexions. It improves the texture of the skin by creating a smooth canvas and eliminating shine, which prolongs makeup wear time.

Lancôme La Base Pro is an oil-free, clear-colored, gel-like formula that glides onto the skin easily. Because it’s silicone-based it feels soft and silky to the touch, and a little goes a long way. It’s unscented, lightweight, dries fast without leaving a residue, and won’t clog pores.

I use it on models whose complexions have a tendency to develop shine quite quickly, and those with large pores or other imperfections. It mattes down the face, keeping breakthrough oil at bay, and minimizes the appearance of large pores, fine lines, and other lumps and bumps on the skin’s surface. Post application, foundation goes on more evenly, stays in place, lasts longer, and its color remains true.

Lancôme La Base Pro should be applied to clean, moisturized skin with a brush or fingertips. It can be used all over the face or to spot-treat problem areas (e.g. the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin)). For best results, wait a few moments after application for the product to fully absorb before following up with foundation. Then go ahead and apply your favorite look.
